8 self-propelled robots will clean the walls of the dams and dykes around the rivers from bushes and grasses to prevent floods, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Kornelia Ninovasaid on May 30 during a visit at the "Golemo Selo" dam near Bobov Dol, to observe the work of one of the robots.

"The robot cleaners are owned by the state-owned enterprise "Management and Maintainance of Dams". With their use, it will be faster to work in hard-to-reach places, as they clean at slopes up to 50 degrees, where it is dangerous for people. They can also be used to fight fires in forests, without risks to the lives of firefighters," Ninova added.

Currently, between 14 and 18 dams in the country are potentially dangerous, with further 400-420 also in need of urgent repairs. Separately, a survey of other 384 dams has been launched, and public tenders are being prepared for construction and repair work in all of them.

"With regard to public procurement, we are changing the approach so that no money is stolen and everything happens in front of the eyes of the people, there will be transparency," Ninova added

"The ownership 560 dams have already been transfered from the municipalities to the state-owned Dams Management Enterprise, with a total of over 2,500 to be transferred. The process is ongoing, next week further 10 are expected to be transferred to just one of the regional divisions of the enterprise," explained the director of the State Enterprise "Management of Dams", Tsako Bunchev.
