Holy Wednesday is an important Holy Week Day for the people of Christian faith. The day commemorates some very major events that preceded Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross.
The day recalls Judas’ decision to betray Jesus and the anointment of Jesus at Bethany.
In the Orthodox Church, Holy Wednesday is dedicated to the repentant sinner who poured ointment on the Son of God. His disciples were indignant, but Jesus said the woman had done a good deed - she had prepared him for burial. After this incident, one of the twelve apostles, Judas Iscariot, went to the Jewish chief priests and offered to betray Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver.
And from then on he was looking for an opportunity to do so. Every sinner can be saved and every disciple of Christ can perish if he does not persevere in following what is good, this day shows.
