Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, held a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on the sidelines of the 2022 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on May 25. They discussed the two countries' active cooperation which has been raised to the level of strategic partnership in recent years.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister was adamant that the mutual trust and excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and the State of Israel will continue to develop in new areas of mutual interest.

He highlighted the great importance Bulgaria attaches to its relations with the State of Israel, which have deep historical roots strengthened by the heroic act of saving the Bulgarian Jews from deportation to Nazi death camps during World War II.

In the context of the discussion on deepening bilateral economic cooperation, the two leaders paid particular attention to the energy industry and the opportunities for partnership between the two countries. During the talks, Petkov noted that the Bulgarian government's priority is to guarantee the country's energy security, and in this regard the diversification of natural gas supplies is a key element.

Other topics of the talks between the two leaders included potential opportunities for cooperation in tourism, security, investment and innovation.
