Cost of living for a working person in Bulgaria is 1,216 BGN per month

The net monthly income needed for one working person is BGN 1,216. This figure, based on a basic consumer basket, is needed to cover the cost of living for a working person living alone, for food, housing, education, healthcare, clothing, transport and communications, entertainment and recreation. Over a one-year period, the cost of living for 1 working person increases by BGN 157, of which the food group increases by BGN 69 and non-food goods and services by BGN 89.

The data is according to the analysis of the monitoring of consumer prices and wage for the first quarter of 2022, prepared by the Institute of Social and Trade Union Studies at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria. The data were presented today by CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov, Institute Director Lyuboslav Kostov and Deputy Director Violeta Ivanova.

Dimitrov pointed out that for a three-member household - with two employees and one child, the net income needed reaches 2189 BGN. In one year the increase is by 283 BGN. Income should rise by 15% at least, said the President of the CITUB and pointed out that in the second and third quarters inflation will continue to accelerate.

The accelerated increase in the necessary monthly income for the cost of living results from the sustained rise in prices since the end of last year, which has continued in the first three months of this year.

The gross wage for a single working person is BGN 1,567 and for a family with two working persons with one child, it should be no less than BGN 1,411 for each of the two working people to be able to provide the necessary income for a socially acceptable lifestyle. If only one of the parents is working, he or she must provide a salary of no less than BGN 2,820.
