Customs officials found 450 packs of cigarretes in dog food cans

Customs officials from the Territorial Directorate Customs in Rousse found 8100 cigarettes (450 packs), hidden in cans labeled as pet food.

On 21 April 2022, the customs officials stopped for inspection a van with a Bulgarian registration, travelling to Germany, in the area of BCP “Dunav most-Vidin”. The driver, a Bulgarian citizen, stated that he does not transport any excisable or forbidden goods.

In the course of the inspection, the customs officials found 5 boxes of sealed dog food cans in the van and ascertained that their weight did not correspond to the content, shown on the label.

On opening them, they determined that all 45 tins contained cigarettes from a popular brand, covered with a valid Bulgarian revenue stamp.

The driver explained that the cigarettes belonged to him and that he was delivering them to his friends in Germany. A total of 8100 cigarettes (450 packs), transported in violation of the excisable legislation, were confiscated. A statement has been drawn up of the case of said administrative violation.
