A ruptured gas pipe caused an explosion in the city of Vratsa, Northwestern Bulgaria, on May 26. The incident occurred at the traffic lights on Blvd. "Vasil Kanchev".
An explosion was heard. The ruptured people sparked fire, but the fire-fighting department’s response was quick. The flow of gas was immediately stopped.
Krasimir Vassilev, spokesman for the Regional Police Directorate, later said the fire had been brought under control.
The incident took place during excavation work where a pipeline of a private gas supply company was affected. No people were injured but material damage was caused. Traffic lights in the area were burnt and the asphalt pavement in the area of the incident was destroyed.
