Opposition GERB will table a vote of no confidence against the government tomorrow

The opposition GERB party will submit a vote of no confidence against the government of Kiril Petkov tomorrow, Deputy Chairman of the party Tomislav Donchev announced at a press conference on June 14.

"The failure of this government is complex and has no sectoral dimensions. The scale of this failure is such that this government has no one to compete with in the modern political history of Bulgaria.

In his words, the most tangible failure is in the area of public finance.

This misery should end. It is a misery for everyone - for the partners, for the MPs, in their desperate attempts to come up with an argument for why this government has a right to exist. It is anguish for the ministers, the greatest anguish is for the prime minister, he added.

Tomislav Donchev confirmed that GERB will probably not support the proposed budget update in plenary hall. He also commented that early elections are the "less bad solution":

"I don't see any logic for the opposition to support the budget. An early election is not the best in this situation, but we have brought ourselves to a situation where all solutions are bad. I argue that early elections are the less bad solution, Donchev said.

According to Delyan Dobrev, inflation is "galloping".

"This inflation is not due to the war, because if you look at Europe, the inflation there is twice less. Part of the inflation in our country can be explained, the other is not explainable. The one that can be explained is by the incompetence of the government - they make businesses beg every month for compensation to continue"

Dobrev believes that the unexplained inflation is due to lobbying and corruption and gave the example of fuel and natural gas price hikes.

"Why is it inexplicable - the price of oil is the same as in 2012, excise duties - the same, VAT - the same.

The parliamentary group of GERB has prepared its motives and collected signatures, said Desislava Atanasova.

"Tomorrow, we will table the vote. On whom will we rely - we believe that in this National Assembly there are people who are masters of themselves and will have the courage to clearly stand on the side of the people. We will invite all parliamentary groups to consultations, starting with the smallest parliamentary group. We will have a conversation in the Bulgarian Parliament, not in a shopping mall, not in laboratories, not in apartments. Bulgaria now needs statesmen, stability and security, and all this goes through resignation," she said.

In Toma Bikov's words, the no-confidence vote is aimed at stabilising the political system.

"Our goal is not just for this government to finish its unfortunate term in office. Our goal is even, if you will, to help the BSP and Democratic Bulgaria (partners in the coalition) to get out of this awkward situation in which they are and is about to end them as political entities," said Bikov.

Tomislav Donchev described as "absolutely untrue and circulated" the allegations that some of the GERB MPs will support the fall of the veto on North Macedonia.
