Polls: Bulgarians expect higher inflation in the next 12 months

In April, pessimism increased in consumers' overall view and expectations compared to January. Consumer confidence has fallen by 4.9 points from its level three months ago, confidence among the population in cities and villages has fallen, according to data from the NSI survey.

Consumers' views in regards of the development of the economic situation in the country in the last 12 months as well as expectations for the next 12 months are more pessimistic compared to three months ago. Their assessments and expectations about changes in the financial situation of their households are also more negative compared to January.

Consumers continue to believe that there has been an increase in consumer prices over the past 12 months. At the same time, their expectations about inflation for the next twelve months are higher.

In terms of unemployment in the country in the coming twelve months, forecasts are shifting towards more moderate views.

The current economic situation in the country continues to be assessed by the majority of consumers as unfavourable to savings. Their attitude towards spending on the purchase of durable goods, on the 'purchase or construction of a home (villa)' and on 'home improvements' over the next twelve months is also negative.

The survey is part of the EU's harmonised Business Trend and Consumer Observation Programme. The respondents in the poll are aged 18 years and older, the sampling method is random, cluster and proportional to population by region. The survey method is a face-to-face interview.
