The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assisting Bulgarian citizens evacuated after the fire on the ferry in the Ionian Sea to leave the island of Corfu. They will arrive this evening, February 19, in Igoumenitsa, from where they will take a bus to Bulgaria. Some of the Bulgarians will be transported to Italy, as they have requested a statement by Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry said.
The first 38 Bulgarian citizens have already left for Bulgaria and are expected to arrive in the country..
According to the Bulgarian consul in Thessaloniki, who has been on the island of Corfu since yesterday to provide on-the-spot assistance, the two Bulgarians, who are in hospital, are in good condition. One has already left the hospital and the other, who was intubated, is stabilized and his life is not at risk.
According to official information received from the Greek authorities, seven Bulgarian citizens are still missing after the ferry fire.
The Bulgarian Embassy in Athens and the Bulgarian Consulate General in Thessaloniki are in constant contact with the relevant local institutions, providing full assistance.
