Bulgaria’s 47th National Assembly on February 24 adopted a declaration condemning the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At the proposal of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the declaration was voted on text by text in order not to vote on the sanctions point. "Vazrazhdane" party said it would not support it. The item was adopted anyway without the support of the BSP and Vazrazhdane.
The draft declaration was read out before the debate by Andrei Gyurov, chairman of the parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change” .
The declaration says that the National Assembly:
Strongly condemns the blatant violation of international law by the Russian Federation and the violation of territorial integrity through military intervention against Ukraine.
Supports its EU and NATO partners and allies in discussing a package of measures, including sanctions, to de-escalate the conflict.
Supports the Bulgarian government in undertaking the necessary measures commensurate with the seriousness of the challenges to the international security architecture.
Supports the Bulgarian government in cosidering and offering assistance to Ukraine, consistent with the Bulgarian state.
Supports the Bulgarian government in demanding protection of life and health of civilians in the region be an absolute priority, to assist in obtaining immediate assistance for Bulgarian citizens and Bulgarians with Ukrainian citizenship living in Ukraine, including in the event of the need for evacuation.
It expects the Bulgarian Government to propose and present a plan for addressing the consequences of the hostilities. Urges the Russian Federation to immediately cease hostilities and resume to full compliance with international law.
