Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev on Novmber 30 launched the 19th edition of “Bulgarian Christmas” charity campaign in support of the children who need medical emergency aid and intensive care.

The 2020/2021 edition of the charity initiative raised 1,850,000 BGN. The money was used to support the treatment of 500 children and 27 medical establishments across the country.

For many years, "Bulgarian Christmas" contributes to the establishment of philanthropic traditions in the country and is proof that we can be united and live in a humane society. It gives us hope that together we can make Bulgaria have a better future. This was stated by President Rumen Radev in the children's ward of the Eye Diseases Clinic at “Alexandrovska" General Hospital in Sofia. In the presence of doctors, children and parents, the head of state announced the start of the nineteenth edition of the charity initiative "Bulgarian Christmas", held under his auspices. The President was accompanied by his wife Desislava Radeva.

The head of state stressed that with the support of our entire society, with the efforts of doctors and with its transparency and efficiency, "Bulgarian Christmas" has become a cause that enjoys great public support and trust. The charity initiative also draws public attention to the problems and policies of children's health in the country.

"Thank you for your dedication and care for young patients, for the high professionalism and will you show every day in your difficult and extremely noble profession," President Radev told the doctors.

The campaign, which will continue throughout next year, is entitled "Give hope to a child in need." The President pointed out that the new edition of the initiative is in support of children in need of emergency care and intensive care. The main goal of the "Bulgarian Christmas" campaign 2021/2022 is to help improve the diagnostic and treatment process by providing medical equipment for children's clinics and wards throughout the country. This will expand the possibilities of doctors in Bulgaria to apply modern methods of treatment.

Thanks to the empathy of thousands of virtuous Bulgarians, the eighteenth edition of "Bulgarian Christmas", dedicated to children with severe chronic diseases, has a budget of BGN 1,850,000. 500 children were supported for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Medical equipment for 27 medical institutions from all over the country is in the process of delivery.

"We are especially pleased that we managed to provide a modern high-tech device -" RED Digital Camera", especially for the children's ward of the Clinic of Ophthalmology at "Alexandrovska" hospital, said President Radev. The head of state expressed hope that thanks to the efforts of doctors and high-tech equipment, fewer and fewer children will be at risk of retinopathology, complications at a later stage of development and possible vision loss.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Oscar - Head of the Clinic of Ophthalmology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Galina Dimitrova - Head of the Children's Ophtalmology and Prof. Dr. Iva Petkova. During the meeting, the representatives of the management of the medical institution shared the great interest of young doctors to specialize in the hospital.
