Bulgaria and eight other countries along the Danube will develop joint projects with Ukraine and Moldova. For the first time, the countries will have access to over 6 million euros from the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) of the Danube Transnational Cooperation Programme 2014-2020. In Bulgaria, it is coordinated by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.

An EU budget of 1.4m euros has been earmarked for EU member states. The ENI provides € 2.48 million for Ukraine and € 2.33 million for Moldova.

Each project can be funded with up to 230,000 euros, provided that the projects are completed by June 30, 2023.

The leading partner in the joint projects must be a country within the territorial scope of the Danube programme: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany (Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg), Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The aim of the European instrument is to strengthen the cooperation of the countries along the Danube and to encourage the Ukrainian and Moldovan institutions to develop transnational projects supported by the Danube 2021-2027 programme.

At the local level, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works will provide national co-financing in the amount of 15% of the budget, which must be provided by each Bulgarian partner participating in the project.

Bulgaria participates with its entire territory in the Danube Transnational Cooperation Programme. Beneficiaries can be national, regional and local authorities, as well as non-governmental and private organisations.

Detailed information on the requirements for developing project proposals can be found on the Danube programme website.

On February 9, 2022, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works will organize a seminar for the candidates through the Webex platform. Both potential lead partners and project partners can participate in it.

Registration for the seminar is done through the programme's website and can be done until the end of the working day on February 7. In case the number of participants is very large, the seminar will be repeated.
