On May 11, Bulgarians commemorate the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, who created the Slavonic script in 862. The day is celebrated with a festive Holy Mass in all dioceses.

It is the day of the National Library "St. Cyril and Methodius" and the National School of Ancient Languages and Cultures "St. Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher. For another year in a row, a ceremony takes place in Rila Monastery for presenting awards to principals and teachers from all over the country, who have contributed to the development of education in Bulgaria.

The National Library presents the exhibition "Altars of National Memory".

Since early in the morning, members of the public lay wreaths at the Monument to the Holy Brothers.

The two brothers Cyril and Methodius created the alphabet in the IX century. They are both regarded as the country’s patrons of education and culture.

In recognition of the apostolic and cultural work that the two educators carried out on the Old Continent, they were proclaimed co-patrons of Europe by Pope John Paul II on December 31, 1980.
