Bulgaria will be easing the anti-epidemic measures. Prime Minister and the health authorities announced that the green certificate related restrictions will be phased out by 20 March.

The first step will be taken in a few days. From February 24, customers and visitors to restaurants, cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries and other public places will be able to enter without a certificate. The owners of public facilities will be given discretion whether to require visitors to show green certificate. However, the certificate remains mandatory for the staff. From Thursday, language schools and community support centres will allow up to 12 visitors.

From March 5, a green certificate would not be required for admission to places such as restaurants, irrespective of the personal preference of the owner. The green certificate requirement would remain in place for staff. Mixing of classes in schools will be allowed, and language schools will operate with unlimited visitors subject to physical distance. However, those arriving in the country will be allowed only with a certificate of vaccination, having had Covid-19 or negative test result.

From March 20, the green certificate will be dropped for staff in all public places. Students return to universities in attendance, without a certificate.

Almost a month after announcing that the green certificate would be dropped in Bulgaria at 60% vaccinated population and 5% occupancy rate of intensive care beds, the government has taken a new decision.

"Sometime around March 20, it will be possible to end all restrictions stemming from the green certificate and it will remain in force, only in the European travel regulation," said Prime Minister Kiril Petkov.

The Covid-19 morbidity curve is going down.

"For the past week the drop in morbidity is 24.8%. After 2 years of restrictions, difficulties, facing all kinds of problems, the moment comes when we can say that things are going well," said Assoc. Angel Kunchev, Chief State Health Inspector.
