In the framework of the established intensive cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the US Embassy, a meeting was held on January 24, 2022 between Bulgaria’s Minister of Defence, Stefan Yanev and the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bulgaria, Herro Mustafa. The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov.
The meeting discussed topics related to the strategic partnership between the two countries, the development of projects for the modernization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, as well as the security environment in the region.
Minister Stefan Yanev said that the Bulgarian side highly appreciates the support of the United States for the modernization of the Bulgarian armed forces and expressed hope that the two countries will continue to develop and upgrade their cooperation in this direction.
He added that he would focus his efforts on acquiring new capabilities for the Bulgarian Army, in particular the opportunities to continue the project to acquire a new armoured vehicle for the Land Forces.
Ambassador Mustafa noted the readiness of the American side to continue to provide assistance and support for the implementation of joint initiatives in the field of defence cooperation, taking into account the needs of Bulgaria.
