Hospitals in the central north part of the country are overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients and quickly filled their capacity. 70 percent of intensive care beds in this region are occupied. The forecast is that in 5 days it will enter the highest - fourth degree of spread and then over 80 percent of intensive care beds will be full.

The North Central region includes the districts of Silistra, Rousse, Veliko Turnovo and Gabrovo. At the moment, the hospitals in Rousse have 160 available beds, 10 of which are intensive care, but accept patients from Razgrad and Silistra, which further burdens the system in the district.

However, no patient will be returned, according to the management of Kanev Hospital. Currently, 96 Covid-19 patients are being treated there, and 16 are in intensive care.

The regional hospital in Gabrovo is currently treating 58 people, 6 of them are children, there are 6 intensive care beds open at the moment, two are occupied.

In Veliko Turnovo district, the Regional Crisis Headquarters is expected to meet in the early afternoon today, January 17, to discuss the measures that will be taken.

18 intensive care beds have been opened in the district and almost 90 percent of them are occupied.

6 of the intensive care beds opened for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the district hospital in Veliko Turnovo are occupied.

"We have 18 intensive care beds in the district, if there is a transfer of patients, after the condition improves or after lethal end of the disease, there are fewer patients, does that mean that we are moving to a green zone, as we will have less occupation of intensive care beds? When all these intensive care beds are full, then we have lost control of the epidemic process," said Dr. Stefan Filev - Director of "Dr. Stefan Cherkezov" hospital in Veliko Turnovo.

According to the Government's Plan, in the fourth stage of the spread of Covid-19, at more than 70 percent occupancy of intensive care beds in hospitals, school students from 5th to 12th grade are expected to study on a rotating basis, restaurants and shops to work at 50% of its capacity and with reduced working hours until 22:00.
