The first cases of a sub-variant of Omicron has been detected in Bulgaria.
The Omicron BA.2 subvariant was found in 7 samples from three districts in Bulgaria after cellogenomic sequencing by the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
According to the WHO, the subvariant is found in more and more countries.
The National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases said on February 4 that it found the Omicron coronavirus variant in 249 out of 334 samples taken from Covid-19 patients in the country.
A total of 8,142 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Bulgaria today. The number of hospitalisations has increased to 6,124 patients, which is by 200 more compared to the previous period of 24 hours. 568 are in intensive care. The covid-19 related deaths over the past 24 hours are 96.
