Employers insist on urgent meeting with PM over high electricity prices

Immediate meeting with Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was requested by the nationally representative employers' organizations in connection with the high prices of electricity and natural gas.

In a letter to Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and Deputy Prime Minister Asen Vassilev, the employers point out that they have repeatedly sent requests for a meeting to discuss decisions for support of the businesses, but have neither a reply nor a scheduled meeting.

The letter was signed by the chairman of the Association of Industrial Capital Vasil Velev, and the other nationally representative employers' organizations - BIA, BCCI, CEIBG and Union for Private Economic Enterprise - are listed as guarantors.

According to employers, there is a lack of dialogue with the executive branch, as well as working solutions to overcome the risk situation related to the price of electricity and natural gas for non-household consumers.

"The scheme to compensate non-household consumers for the electricity they use with a ceiling of 30% of the actual market price invalidates the claim that 75% of the difference between the actual market price for July this year (185.59 BGN / MWh) and the actual market price for the respective month at prices above BGN 300 will be compensated. At a price of BGN 800, for example, what average daily price we already had, the compensation will be limited to BGN 240, and the impossible 560 BGN per megawatt-hour will remain effective for payment, " the letter says.

Employers warn that in this situation, many companies will limit and phase out work. According to them, there is a risk of job loss, a serious rise in prices instead of income and mass impoverishment.

They demand an immediate meeting to clarify, as a matter of urgency, the situation that has arisen, which is extremely dangerous for the economy and social peace.

"We call on you for maximum speed, concentration and coherence in the actions of state institutions in an immediate and constructive dialogue with us, because we believe that only in this way solutions can be found. We do not want to have a dialogue through the media." - the letter says.
