first sitting 47th parliament

The first regular sitting of the 47th National Assembly was held on December 8. The Conference of Presidents decided to start the plenary day with a hearing of the caretaker Minister of Culture Prof. Velislav Minekov on the case with the newspaper "Trud".

Sharp disputes arose during the hearing. The caretaker minister blew up the hall from the very beginning, when he led the hearing in the direction of accusations towards GERB regarding the freedom of speech during their governance. He asked why an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly was not convened when the BNR radio went off air, when journalists in various media were fired in an unprecedented way and programmes were dropped.

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) refused to take part in this hearing, calling it unprecedented behaviour that should not be allowed in the plenary hall.

The new Speaker of the National Assembly has suffered many criticisms for allowing insults and qualifications of MPs.

The issue of GERB's headquarters (former ruling party) in the National Palace of Culture was also raised. The occasion was given by the chairman of “There is Suc a People”, Toshko Yordanov, who asked Minekov if there was a party to be housed in a building of the Ministry of Culture. According to Minekov, GERB is illegally located on the 16th and 17th floors of the National Palace of Culture. They also received an answer that this was not true.

The MPs also discussed the topic with a continuation from yesterday - whether the access to the National Assembly building should be done only with a green certificate. At the beginning of the sitting, in declarations, GERB requested that this item be included in the agenda of the National Assembly. They stated that MPs should not behave like "anointed by God" in the National Assembly, and that people must observe all measures and not be allowed without Covid-19 certificates in public places.

Vazrazhdane said they wanted a referendum and only the people could decide whether to have green certificates.
