Former PM‘s Lawyer: Borissov is detained on a signal for extortion, the European Prosecutor's Office is not involved in the action

According to lawyer Menko Menkov, Boyko Borissov is detained for alleged extortion. He added that the European Prosecutor's Office was not involved in the operation against the former Prime Minister. Menkov left the building of the State Prosecutor's Office shortly after one o'clock after midnight on March 18 and said that Borissov would spend the night in the police station.

"Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was questioned as a witness today. I am not familiar with any other materials, except the report on the search of his home and the warrant for his 24-hour detention. No one other than PM Petkov has been questioned. I did not find out what Borissov is accused of. There are some general provisions written that say it is extortion. It doesn't say who, when or what exactly the extortion consists of," Menkov said.

"There have been no charges and charges cannot be pressed. The prosecutor's office found out about what was happening from the media. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under conditions of urgency. It is an investigation initiated on a signal of the "BOETS" movement.

"The alert was filed on December 10 on a printout from the media. This signal was submitted to the Minister of Interior then, an inspection was carried out, which was not reported to the Prosecutor's Office," lawyer Menkov stressed.

He added that the first and only action on the investigation carried out so far was the questioning of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov.

"Borissov has not been questioned now, there is no way he can be, because there is not even an investigating police officer," the lawyer said.
