Heavy snowfall in Rila and the Rhodope mountains, traffic of lorries is prohibited in Smolyan region

There is a heavy snowfall in the areas of Bulgaria’s Rila and the Rhodopes mountains on February 1. Due to the snow, the traffic of vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes with trailers and semi-trailers is temporarily banned on the territory of the entire Smolyan region in Southern Bulgaria.

The traffic of vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes with trailers and semi-trailers is restricted through the passes "Rozhen", "Prevala" and "Predela" due to snow clearing, as well as on the road Razlog - Yundola - Velingrad.

With the exception of these restrictions, the roads in Blagoevgrad district are passable in winter conditions. It is snowing in the whole area, except for Petrich and Sandanski. More than 22 snow ploughing machines are operating on the roads.
