International meeting in Sofia discusses the problems of small and medium-sized businesses during pandemic

70% of those employed in the economy in Bulgaria work in small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the most affected by the Covid pandemic. Digitalisation is one of their main problems, so the ministry in charge of e-governance is seen as very encouraging news. This became clear at a two-day international business meeting, which is being held in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

The pandemic has strongly affected the work of small and medium-sized enterprises in our country, the most affected are those in the areas of tourism, restaurant business and services, according to the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency.

A very small percentage have managed to take advantage of the crisis and the challenges that have arisen. The idea of ​​the international meeting in Sofia is to exchange experiences and how to make it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to cope with the consequences of the pandemic.

"The problems of small and medium-sized businesses, both in your country and across Europe, are similar. These are labour force shortages, difficult access to financing, insufficient digitalisation, which accelerated during the pandemic, but there is still a lot to be done," said Sergio Arzeni, president of the International Network for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.

The idea of having a ministry in charge of e-governance and digitalisation is very encouraging. If such reforms are undertaken, they will greatly ease the business environment, said Boyko Takov, executive director of the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency

According to the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Doncho Barbalov, if we do not curb the pandemic of COVID-19 with mass vaccination and active actions to save people's lives, no business in our country will be able to prosper.
