The new snow cover on the high parts of the Rhodope mountains is over 20 centimetres. The snowfall continues. In the whole Smolyan region, Southern Bulgaria, there is a restriction on the traffic of lorries weighing more than 12 tonnes with trailers and semi-trailers.
The high mountain passes are closed to traffic of lorries, and all other vehicles are required to have tyre chains for driving through the passes of Prevala, Rozhen, Pamporovo and Pechinsko.
Republican roads are snow-covered, but passable in winter conditions.
