The National Institute of Statistics published data from a study on the gross domestic product per capita of EU member states for 2021.
The study shows that in 2021, Bulgaria is the member state with the lowest GDP per capita, at 45% below the EU average. Luxembourg and Ireland have the highest levels - 177% and 121% above the EU average respectively.
"GDP per capita physical volume indices are used in the allocation of structural funds within the EU. Regions where real GDP per capita is below 75% of the EU average (over a 3-year period) are eligible to Structural Funds support," the NSI wrote.
