New train timetable of the Bulgarian railways comes into force on December 12

The new train timetable of the Bulgarian state railways, BDZ-Passenger Transport EOOD, will enter into force as of Sunday (December 12th), The existing time table will remain unchanged in most regions of the country, In order to improve services, convenient train connections will be provided with possibilities for travel between more settlements. Fast train services to some destinations will be increased, which will significantly improve connection with railway transport services between northern and southern Bulgaria.

When preparing the new time tale, the Bulgarian Railway company agrees the services of fast and passenger trains with the district and municipal administrations.

In the next year, the volume of transport services will be increased as envisaged in the contract with the state for the provision of public transport.

The draft time table was published for public discussion in September so that BDZ customers can get acquainted with the company's intentions for the train schedule next year and have enough time to respond with reasoned proposals to the carrier and relevant regional and municipal authorities. This is done in order to improve the transport services so most of the changes in the train schedule are in line with the proposals received from the members of the public. Some of the changes are related to justified requests of regular customers, and some to increase the profitability of transportation services and efficient use of rolling stock.

Next year, the volume of services set in the contract with the state for the provision of public transport services will be increased.

The total of 579 trains will include 84 fast trains (4 of which will only operate only in the summer), 122 passenger trains and 370 suburban passenger trains, some of which will only operate on certain days of the week or at certain times of the year.

The new time table provides for a direct high-speed train Gorna Oryahovitsa-Plovdiv-Gorna Oryahovitsa, which will travel through Tsareva Livada and Karlovo with a convenient connection to Gabrovo and Hissar and the possibility of direct travel to Kazanlak, Kalofer and the resort towns of Pavel Banya and Banya. Seasonal night trains will travel between Sofia and Bourgas via the Sub-Balkan route, as well as between Gorna Oryahovitsa and Bourgas with direct carriages from Sofia, Pleven and Ruse with a convenient connection in Mezdra for passengers from Vidin and Vratsa to Bourgas and vice versa. For those traveling from Sofia to Pleven, a fast train will be provided at a convenient time in place of the evening passenger train in this direction, and the travel time will be shorter.

The new time tale also inludes 16 international high-speed trains (2 of them will run only during the summer season), and due to the anti-epidemic measures introduced, their travel across the borders with Greece, Turkey and Serbia will not take place yet.

The daily service of trains between Bulgaria and Romania will continue through the international connection in the direction Sofia-Bucharest with the morning train Sofia-Varna with direct carriages to Rousse and the afternoon train Rousse-Sofia with connection at Rousse station to and from Bucharest. The other possibility for international connection between Bulgaria and Romania is in the direction Sofia-Craiova, which takes place at Vidin station with the morning train Sofia-Vidin and the noon train service Vidin-Sofia.
