Passenger numbers at Sofia airport in the first month of 2022 decreased by 41.3% compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019. For the past period, Sofia airport passenger total was 309,504, which is 218,000 fewer than before the Covid-19 crisis, the capital airport reported on February 20.
Passenger numbers on international scheduled routes has also almost halved - nearly 45% compared to the first month of 2019. The number of passengers travelling on domestic flights has also seen a serious decline of 35% in January.
Aircraft take-offs and landings at Sofia Airport in the first month of the year reached 3,529, with a 24.2% decrease compared to 2019.
The volume of cargo and postal packages handled in January decreased by 8.3% and amounted to 1,538 tonnes.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be the main negative factor hindering the recovery of air traffic levels, according to Sofia Airport.
