Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, and his Chief of Staff, Lena Borislavova, were interviewed at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office on February 9.

The PM handed over to the Prosecutor's Office a list of 19 names of people who, in his words, are linked to criminal and economic crimes. And the Prosecutor's Office said it would request all the information from the Ministry of Interior about the people on Kiril Petkov's list. During the interview, the Prime Minister expressed the feeling that neither the Bulgarian society nor the government is satisfied with the results that the Prosecutor’s Office has achieved so far.

PM arrived at the Prosecutor's Office carrying a large folder.

"This is the information I presented at the press conference as well. These are the names of people who have been in the public domain for a long time, with the possibility of involvement in wrongdoing. And I regret that the Prosecutor's Office needs the Executive in this way to carry additional information and to want evidence," Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said.

The prime minister explained that the information he brought to the Prosecutor's Office is public from journalistic materials and investigations.

The Prime Minister was interviewed by two prosecutors for nearly two hours.

"I expressed my feeling, which I also expressed with Mr Geshev, that neither the Bulgarian government nor the public is satisfied with the results that the Prosecutor’s Office has achieved so far," said Kiril Petkov.

Kiril Petkov reiterated that they are not satisfied with the Prosecutor General.

"And I think the whole society would be happy to see him resign," the PM said.

He disagreed with the President's assessment that being called for an interview was an institutional blackmail.

"No! I don't find it as pressure, I find it as unnecessary PR to tell you the truth," Petkov said.

Lena Borislavova, PM’s Chief of Staff, who was present at the Petkov-Geshev meeting on Friday 4, was also summoned for an interview.

"I'm not carrying a huge folder of documents. I brough a list only, because the information is hardly different from what the Prime Minister has already provided," Borislavova said.

She refused to mention specific names, arguing that the Prosecutor’s Office should be given the opportunity to take the necessary action. Her questioning lasted an hour. She told prosecutors that the list was entirely from media publications and public sources.

"It could be expected that since the Prime Minister and I have been called for interviews because we read the news and media publications, that every Bulgarian who reads the news should also be called to explain how and why the Prosecutor’s Office, potentially, if it considers this evidence to be legitimate, should conduct an investigation," the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff added.

The Prosecutor's Office said that after today's interviews, it would request from the Ministry of Interior and special services any relant information about the persons on PM Kiril Petkov's list

"Then it is the expectation of the Prosecutor’s Office and I will be happy if the Ministry of Interior cooperates," Lena Borislavova said.

She denied that in gathering the information, she was selective as regards the media in which it was published.

"This is what Google shows when you try to search for information. I have no particular inclination or desire to use one media outlet or another. I think they are quite different. There were even ones I don't read regularly and I don't follow," Borislavova clarified.

She also commented that all institutions should interact in the fight against crime and corruption.
