Bulgaria's public supplier of naturl gas to the gas distribution companies, “Bulgargaz”, proposes an increase in the price of natural gas by 38.6% from May compared to the current price. Thus, 1 megawatt-hour of blue fuel will cost 157.73 BGN. Currently, the gas price is 113.73 BGN per megawatt-hour.
The new gas price will become a fact only after a decision of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. However, the price of the blue fuel for April will be set first. A month ago, the gas supplier was proposing a price cut to 113.85 BGN per megawatt-hour. But then, gas prices on world markets reached record highs.
Thus, there is little likelihood that the April gas price will be reduced. However, if this were to happen, the increase for May would be 38.5%. “Bulgargaz” will submit final proposals for the new prices to the energy regulator EWRC on 1 April and 1 May, respectively.
If the natural gas price rises by more than 5%, the price of heating and hot water is also expected to change. If an increase of more than 35% is introduced, this would mean a rise in heating of between 11 and 16%.
