Situation in Pirin and Rhodope mountains regions remains complicated after the torrential rains

The situation in the country remains complicated after the torrential rains over the past 2 days. A partial state of emergency has been declared in the Smolyan region, Southern Bulgaria, on December 13.

Borino, Rudozem and Nedelino are most affected. In many places in the municipality of Devin, roads have collapsed, the villages of Trigrad and Yagodina remain cut off. There are power outages in many places in the area.

A three-storey house collapsed to the ground in the village of Stoykite due to a landslide. Fortunately, no one was injured. In the municipality of Devin, roads have collapsed in many places. Power supply in many of the settlements in Smolyan region has not been restored yet.

The asphalt has been washed out in several places on the road between Devin and the village of Trigrad. The municipalities fill the potholes with gravel and gravel where possible, but the roads in the area are not safe.

There are serious damages to several hydroelectric power plants along the Vacha River above Devin. The road between Smolyan and Devin continues to be closed due to damages from the overflowing river Shirokolashka.

State of emergency has been declared in 4 municipalities in the Pirin region after the torrential rains - Simitli, Garmen, Blagoevgrad, and from midnight in Petrich. Dozens of landslides, damaged roads and overflowing rivers, the situation in Kresna, Hadzhidimovo and Bansko is critical. Fortunately, there are no stranded people, assured the regional governor Nikolai Shushkov, but there are washed away roads and some villages in the region are cut off.

The road to the village of Sushitsa in Simitli municipality has been closed due to breaches. In many places, Struma and Mesta rivers overflew and flooded agricultural land.
