Sofia International Book Fair starts today

The 48th edition of the international book fair opened today, December 7, in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

“Green Certificate” and measuring body temperature are required at the entrance.

More than 80 stands with books will welcome the book lovers. The programme includes various cultural events, including meetings with authors and publishers.

The Sofia International Literary Festival, which is part of the book fair, will take place online this year. This way it will be accessible to larger number of people.

Last year, it dd not take place, this year we do it with a lot of hope and faith. The precarious situation that makes people stay at home, but therefore we challenge them - come to us, there are many books, a lot of warmth," said Maya Atanasova - Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian Book Association.

"For me, reading is, as everyone says, a great journey. A journey to myself, a journey to other cultures, and it has always helped me to understand the other point of view, but also to understand that my thinking is a trace of the thoughts of many generations before us," says Petya Koleva.

Sofia hosts the forum at international level since 1968. The book fair represents a major asset in the panel of Bulgarian cultural events. National publishing houses as well as foreign exhibitors display their literary production during the 6 days event. The National Palace of Culture hosts the book fair since 1993.

In 2013, Sofia International Literary Festival became part of Sofia International Book Fair: each year the festival has a different regional focus which allows visitors to explore some of the best contemporary fiction titles in different languages.
