The New Year's concerts of Sofia Opera started on December 29. Every night until the end of the year, its programme includes selected works from the world opera and ballet classics, as well as a special New Year's gift - the musical "My Father, the Painter".
The first part of the programme features the music of Rossini, Handel, Wagner and Tchaikovsky. Among the singing and dancing soloists on stage are Gergana Rusekova, Nikolay Petrov, Ventseslav Anastasov and many others.
"This year the new and unusual thing is that in addition to the first gala part of ballet, orchestra, choir and soloists, we have a second part - in the new year we will put on the musical "My Father, the Painter" by Peter Stupel," Acad. Plamen Kartalov, Director of Sofia Opera and Ballet, explained.
Conductors are George Dimitrov and Boris Spasov. The musical "My Father, the Painter" is under the baton of Svetoslav Lazarov.
"We have a really large palette of masterpieces of opera and ballet classics, which the audience expects, and tickets have long been sold out," added Acad. Plamen Kartalov.
Even at the peak of the pandemic, the Sofia Opera presented more than 50 open-air and indoor performances, and its New Year's programme includes the best.
As part of the tradition, on New Year's Eve, during the interlude, the audience will receive glasses of champagne, which are a gift from the Sofia Opera.
