US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin arrived in Bulgaria on March 18. He has landed at the Bulgarian Army Air Base in Bezmer.
Lloyd Austin is in Bulgaria at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Dragomir Zakov. During the visit, the two will hold a meeting with servicemen from the armies of the two countries who are participating in the joint Bulgarian-American training at the Novo Selo training ground, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said.
Possible military support from Bulgaria to Ukraine is expected to be among the topics to be discussed, according to global media reports. Washington is actively working with partners to provide Kyiv with Soviet-made S-300 air defence systems, which Bulgaria and Slovakia have.
Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, will hold a meeting with Lloyd Austin tomorrow - March 19. During the talks, which will take place at the Council of Ministers in Sofia, the two will discuss topics of interest to both countries. After the meeting, the Bulgarian Prime Minister and the US Defence Secretary will make statements to the media.
