WCC co-chair Assen Vassilev: We hope to have coalition government agreement by the end of the day on Friday

An unexpected U-turn in the negotiations between the potential coalition partners on the signing of the government agreement.

It turned out that the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) had remarks. This prompted, for the first time, the leaders of the four political formations to get together in an emergency meeting in parliament to clarify differences in the document.

We hope to have a coalition agreement by the end of the day on Friday, December 10, said the co-chair of "We Continue the Change" Asen Vassilev.

"The purpose of this meeting was to clarify the final things on the legislative programme in the agreement. Final texts that can be voted on. They are already ready, so we hope tomorrow by the end of the day, there will be a coalition agreement," Vassilev said. "There is Such a People" were also at the meeting. They said they would support the agreement", he explained.

Tomorrow at 13.00 there will be a meeting of the National Council of the BSP, said the party leader Kornelia Ninova.

"We said at the beginning that after the talks of the experts there will be a leadership meeting between the four formations. Today it took place and we have cleared everything in the legislative programme. We had remarks on it in the social sphere, but now everything is decided and budgeted for the next year ", Ninova assured. "Once the meeting is over tomorrow and we receive approval, then we will officially announce it," she added.

We are moving towards proposing a stable government, which we hope will last a full 4 year term, said the co-chair of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov.

"What we have introduced as a coalition culture is for communication to be continuous. We will coordinate very closely in order to have a functioning government," Petkov added.

"We Continue the Change" won the largest share of votes in Bulgaria’s November 14 elections and is the largest parliamentary group. It will be the first to receive a mandate to form a government.

“We Continue the Change” has held talks with three other parliamentary groups – the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), "There is Such a People" party and the Democratic Bulgaria coalition to form a regular cabinet.

The four parties will have a parliamentary majority of 134 seats, out of 240 in total, which is enough to vote a government into office if they reach an agreement.
