Bulgarian archaeologists uncover 'vampire' burial at Perperikon (see pics)

Grave of a deceased person, with anti-vampire rituals performed on the body, was discovered during this year's excavations at the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon, the head of the research team, prof. Nikolay Ovcharov, said on October 22.

He added that the find appeared among almost 250 excavated graves and tombs near the Great Basilica, again in the Southern Quarter.

In 2013, a grave of a "vampire" was discovered at Perperikon, and the skeleton found there was pinned down through the left side of the body with an iron rod. At the time, prof. Ovcharov announced that the discovered grave of a "vampire" was a "twin" of the previously discovered one in Sozopol.
