Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Sofia

The 70th US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (2018-2021) will deliver a lecture at the National Palace of Culture on "Bulgaria's geopolitical significance: after the invasion of Ukraine and Bulgaria's potential as a regional energy leader". Pompeo is in Bulgaria at the invitation of Kiril Domuschiev, Chairman of KRIB. Pompeo was CIA director before he headed the State Department. Under President Donald Trump, whose Secretary of State Pompeo was, the US withdrew from the WHO, the Paris climate agreement and the Iran nuclear deal.

According to him, the US should continue to support Ukraine in order to prevent the war from escalating, to prevent Russia from exercising a monopoly on hydrocarbons and to prevent the creation of a new Russia-China geopolitical axis.
