Judge Galina Toneva from the Supreme Court of Cassation is the new member of the Constitutional Court

The General Assembly of the Judges of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court elected Galina Toneva as Constitutional Judge.

The choice was between three candidates of judges from the Supreme Court of Cassation. The event was held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Court Palace on November 1.

Judge Galina Toneva-Dacheva graduated in Law at Sofia University in 1984. From 1985 to 1986 she was a trainee judge at the Sofia City Court, and in the period 1986-1990 she was a legal adviser at the Territorial Supply - Sofia. From 1990 to 1992, she was a deputy district prosecutor at the Fifth Regional Prosecutor's office - Sofia, and from 1992 to 1995 she was a district judge at the Fifth Regional Court - Sofia. From 1995 to 1998 she was a judge at the Sofia City Court.

From 1998 to 2007, she was a judge at the Sofia Court of Appeal, from 2007 to 2008 she was Acting Deputy Chair of the Court, and from 2008 to 2009 she was Deputy Chair of the Sofia Court of Appeals. From 2009 to 2013, she was Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s office, in 2013 she was Prosecutor at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s office, Head of the Sector for Coordination of Institutional Cooperation and Training, and then until 2015 she was Prosecutor at the Analytical Department.

From 2013 to 2015, she was a permanent lecturer at the National Institute of Justice. Since 2015, she has been a judge at the Supreme Court of Cassation, and since 6 December 2018 she has been the President of the Second Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Cassation. She was a member of the Programme Council of the National Institute of Justice in the period 2012-2013 and from 2019 to date, is also a lecturer at the National Institute of Justice. She is also a member of the Analytical Unit of the SCC.
