The resignation of the government has been submitted, the Parliament told BNT on June 27. At this stage, no statement of the outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov is foreseen.
The Petkov cabinet remained in power for just over six months and was ousted by a vote of no confidence last week with 124 votes from GERB, Movement for Rights and Freedoms, “Vazrazhdane” and “There is Such a People” group.

After the government’s resignation was submitted, President Rumen Radev is to hold consultations with the parliamentary groups before he hands over a mandate to form a government.
The first consultations are scheduled for today.
The mandate is first handed over the largest parliamentary group, which is Petkov's “We Continue the Change” party.
If unable to form a cabinet, the mandate is next given to the second largest parliamentary group, which is GERB-UDF.
If the second parliamentary group fails to present a cabinet, the President assigns a mandate to a third parliamentary group, at his choice.
If the third attempt to form a cabinet fails, the President then dissolves the Parliament by a decree, sets a new date for early elections and appoints a caretaker government.
