“Citizens must put forward their formal leaders – this is not a gauntlet being thrown down,” the Prime Minister commented.
“We have no doubt that, in the forthcoming vote of no confidence, the government will receive support and survice for the sixth time. For us, the decisions of the National Assembly carry meaning only when they express the will of the sovereign. Our intention is to meet the expectations of the public. He emphasized the constitutional principle that authority derives from the people (the sovereign). As we have already stated, we hear the voice of the people,” Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said on December 11.
According to him, this is a protest about values and conduct, not a social protest. “This civic energy should be encouraged, because the world faces many challenges, and defending democracy is among them,” the Prime Minister said.
“The memebers of the public should put forward their formal leaders — this is not a gauntlet thrown down to Assen Vassilev, Bozhidar Bozhanov, Atanas Atanasov, nor even to President Rumen Radev,” Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasised.
“The government is resigning,” Rosen Zhelyazkov announced. He said that this is the appropriate moment for the resignation.
“Bulgaria should stand alongside the European states which, over the centuries, have shown they can build a European Union. We must complete the cycle of our EU membership by joining the eurozone. We promised macroeconomic stability, and we delivered it, together with unprecedented revenue growth. We will meet the 2025 budget framework. We proposed a social-protection budget for 2026 aimed at increasing purchasing power. This could not be fully explained — or perhaps our opponents simply chose not to understand it,” Rosen Zhelyazkov commented.
