President Rumen Radev will lead the Bulgarian delegation at the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference in Baku

The composition of the Bulgarian delegation to the 29th Climate Change Conference, which will be held from 11 to 22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan, was approved by the caretaker cabinet on October 30.

The delegation will be led by Head of State Rumen Radev.

Parties to the UN Framework Convention are expected to continue efforts to accelerate action to adapt to climate change and make progress in meeting the targets adopted in the Paris Agreement (PA). The focus of this year's conference will be on agreeing a new global climate finance target to address low-carbon development investment needs, with a focus on countries most vulnerable to climate change, the government information office said.

Following the official opening of the conference on 11 November, a Climate Action Summit will be held on 12-13 November 2024, where Bulgaria will be represented at the highest level by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. A number of events are planned for the Bulgarian pavilion at COP29 in the framework of the conference, which will reinforce our country's active role in international climate diplomacy.

"Levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reached a record high in 2023 and this condemns the planet to rising temperatures in the years to come," the UN World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said.

Carbon dioxide is accumulating in the atmosphere faster than ever before in history, with levels increasing by more than ten per cent in just two decades, the WMO said in its annual report on greenhouse gases, data from which are published in a press release on the organisation's website.
