A slight increase in the prices of some staple food commodities, fruits and vegetables was observed over the previous week, data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets show.

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.43% to 2.111 points in the previous week. Last week, the index stood at 2.102 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of white cheese from cow’s milk increased by 0.8 per cent to BGN 11.36 per kg, while the price of yellow cheese of the type “Vitosha” fell by 0.4 per cent to BGN 16.63 per kg.

The price of yoghurt (with 3 and above 3 per cent fat content) is down by 1.1 per cent and is bought at BGN 1.27 per 400 g bucket, while the price of fresh milk (with 3 per cent fat content) remains unchanged at BGN 2.31 per litre.

The price of chicken meat fell by 1.9 per cent to BGN 6.25 per kg, while that of eggs (size M) fell by 0.6 per cent to BGN 0.31 per wholesale unit.

Price of rice went up by 0.2 per cent at BGN 3.37 per kg, lentils - by 0.8 per cent to BGN 4.41 per kg. The price of beans also increased by 1.8 per cent to BGN 4.35 per kg.

Sugar fell by 1.7 per cent to BGN 1.97 per kg. Flour type 500, which is bought at BGN 1.31 per kg, and oil, which is offered at BGN 2.84 per litre, each rose by 2.7 per cent. The price of butter from cow's milk (125 gram packet) is down by 0.6 per cent to BGN 2.85 per unit.

Greenhouse cucumbers fell by 9.2 per cent to BGN 2.74 per kg and greenhouse tomatoes by 2.7 per cent to BGN 3.19 per kg. The price of green peppers is up by 9.5 per cent at BGN 1.85 per kg and red peppers by 11.1 per cent to BGN 2.18 per kg.

Price of potatoes rose by 1.9 per cent to BGN 1.17 per kg, cabbage by 5.1 per cent to BGN 1.12 per kg, onions by 4 per cent to BGN 1.09 per kg. Carrots are cheaper by 2.6 per cent and reach BGN 1.20 per kg.

Of the fruits, only melons and lemons are cheaper - by 0.9 per cent and 8.3 per cent to BGN 1.26 per kg and BGN 3.57 per kg. Price of grapes rose by 1.4 per cent and trade at BGN 2.32 per kg. Prices of watermelons rose by 9.4 per cent to BGN 0.56 per kg, apples by 9.5 per cent to BGN 1.76 per kg, bananas by 0.4 per cent to BGN 2.73 per kg.
