Embankments are being built around the railway transport school in Karlovo after a new downpour in the town last night flooded the areas, which were cleaned from the previous flooding.
The heavy rain lasted about 20 minutes and flooded everything that was cleaned up during the day. The drainage canal in the Meden Dol ravine once again left its bed and once again flooded the small campus and the yard of the railway transport school.
Today, August 24, servicemen of the 61st Strymska mechanized brigade and the four emergency teams sent from Sofia again took part in the clean-up efforts after the repeated torrential rain.
"Our capacities are not enough to solve the problem quickly and I thank once again the 61st Stryamska brigade for responding and helping with equipment and personnel. They are helping with the removal of the sediment. Since the equipment cannot collect all the silt, they collect it in bags and from there we haul it away with trucks. We are making a protective dike in front of the vocational school of railway transport. We are clearing the canal, which is silted up. I think that with this protective dike and with the clearing of the canal, no more water will come in," said Nikolay Tsvetkov, deputy mayor of Karlovo municipality.
Because of the flooding, the second session of the matriculation exams will be held in the buildings of two other Karlovo schools.
"The exams will take place, but they will be moved from our school to two other schools in Karlovo, so they will proceed normally. Tomorrow I expect a visit from the head of the PTA. She also wants to get acquainted with the situation and we can already think about how the school year will start," said Stefan Filchev, director of the Hristo Smirnenski Railway Transport School in Karlovo.
