A big wildfire is raging near the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Sveti Vlas on August 8. Dry grass and bushes around the road have caught fire and it has spread over a large area. Its extinguishing is hampered by the rugged terrain and strong wind.
The main road Varna-Bourgas is closed and there are kilometres of traffic jams in both directions.
Five fire engines and 2 water trucks have been sent to the scene. Some 19 firefighters and 5 volunteers from the local forestry service are battling the raging blaze.
Meanwhile, another fire in the village of Devetimtsi, Karnobat region, burned three houses in the settlement. Two women were evacuated before the fire engulfed their homes. At the moment, there are no reports of casualties in the disaster.
The fire started from dry grasses and bushes but spread to the village. The fight against the flames continues. Tractors are making clearings to prevent the fire from reaching other buildings in the village of Devetimtsi.
