Bulgarian orthodox church marks the Assumption of Mary

On 15th of August, the Bulgarian Orthodox church celebrates the Assumption of Virgin Mary.

The day, also known as the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God, is one of the twelve great feasts in the church calendar.

Thousands of people from all over the country come to Bachkovo Monastery to honour the Mother of God and pray for health, success and salvation. On August 15, the Holy Monastery also celebrates its temple feast.

Religious services began the night before with evening liturgies and night vigils. Today, they continued from early in the morning. The number of people arriving in Bachkovo Monastery continues to grow.

There is a large queue in front of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. Many people arive the day before and stay overnight in the monastery. It is believed that on this day the power of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God is even greater. The faithful come here to pray for health and healing for themselves and their loved ones.

The monastery said that in 2019, after prayers to the Virgin Mary, a pregnant woman who had fetal distress early in her pregnancy, gave birth to a healthy baby. There are also testimonies of people who have even been cured of cancer.
