The President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev is on an official visit in Montenegro. Today he was received by his Montenegrin counterpart, Milo Đukanović, in the presidential palace in the historical capital Cetinje.

For the Bulgarians Montenegro is a friendly country, with which we have cultural, historical and spiritual connections that span centuries. Today we share a common understanding of the European perspective of Southeast Europe, declared the Bulgarian President after the meeting.

“I`m here to attest my country’s strong support for Montenegro on its European path. Montenegro is the most advanced country in EU’s enlargement process and we look forward to welcoming you as a full member of the European family soon.” Rumen Radev said to his Montenegrin counterpart.

The strong support for Montenegrin citizens in relation to their country’s membership in the EU is the surest guarantee for neutralisation of all attempts for outside interference in the process of European integration, emphasized Radev.

“Bulgaria is ready to help with expertise to strengthen the institutional capacity of Montenegro for resolving all important issues not only in the accession process, but after it as well.” assured Radev.

In times of security crisis, energy shock, rising inflation, nearing food crisis and potential new migratory flows towards the EU, the key to success is unity, solidarity and collaboration between all the countries in the region, observed the President.

Radev wished success to the upcoming Montenegrin presidency of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

“It is of key importance that our countries attract the attention of the EU and NATO to our region, so that we can have a proactive policy, that not only resists the consequences of the crises, but does everything in its power to prevent any aftershocks of all global crises”, said the President.

For his part, President Milo Đukanović declared that the EU’s enlargement is important not only for Europe, but for the Balkans as well. EU’s biggest investment in Europe’s peace and stability would be precisely the integration of the West Balkans, he commented.

“This is why it is important that our neighbours know the history of the region, recognize its deficits and assess correctly what is necessary for its development. There should not be a vacuum in geopolitics.”, highlighted Đukanović.

During his official visit Rumen Radev will meet with the President of the Montenegrin Parliament Danijela Đurović and the Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović as well.
