The causes of death of two of the men found near the former Petrohan mountain lodge have been established, prosecutors announced on February 12, citing the conclusions of forensic examinations completed so far.
Plamen Statev was shot in the head at point-blank range with a 9mm pistol. Decho Vasilev was also shot with a 9mm weapon, with forensic experts stating that the shot was fired from very close range.
Burns were found on Vasilev’s wrists and palms, likely sustained when an accelerant covering his hands ignited. According to forensic medics, the fatal gunshot wound could have been self-inflicted.
The forensic examination of Ivaylo Ivanov has not yet been completed. It has been confirmed that his trousers were partially burned.
Gunshot residue was detected on the right hands of both Statev and Vasilev. The composition of the particles matches microscopic traces found inside the barrels of the three firearms recovered next to the bodies. Ivanov’s hands were heavily bloodstained, and an additional examination has been ordered to test for gunshot residue on his clothing.
Investigators have also confirmed that two of the shell casings found at the scene were fired from a pistol discovered near the bodies.
Preliminary ballistic analysis of the camper case (near Okolchitsa Peak) has also been completed. It shows that a significant amount of gunshot residue was found on the hands of Ivaylo Kalushev. Residue was also detected on the hands of Nikolay Zlatkov. No gunshot residue was found on the hands of the minor boy who was in the camper.
Prosecutors further reported that witness statements collected so far indicate that mandatory meditation practices were carried out within the closed community, including visualisations, mantras and similar rituals.
Investigators have also confirmed reports of the sustained presence of minors, both in Mexico and in various locations in Bulgaria.
A witness statement also contains allegations that an adult man engaged in sexual contact with underage boys, including minors under the age of 14.
