A "Cougar" military helicopter on August 9 joined the efforts to extinguish the raging wildfire in the area of Pazardzhik, Western Bulgaria.
The fight against the fire over the village of Elshitsa in Panagyurishte continues. There, the flames engulfed thousands of acres of forest. The fire is about a kilometre away from the houses.

The daily capacity of the other two Mi-17 helicopters, which are also involved in the operation, is already exhausted.
There are no reports of injured people or affected houses. The declared partial state of emergency in Panagyurishte municipality remains in effect.
Because of the strong winds, old fires are breaking out again. Black pine forest is burning. Over 2,000 decares of forest are affected.
