The Ministry of Defence has issued a statement concerning the drone that crashed today, August 8, in the area of the former Kardam border checkpoint, close to the border with Romania.
“In connection with the drone that fell in the area of the former Kardam border checkpoint, the Ministry of Defence states the following: an initial analysis of the wreckage indicates that it is most likely a ‘Maya’ decoy drone. These types of drones are widely used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At present, there is no reason to believe that the incident was deliberate,” the statement said.

Additional expert examinations will be conducted to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The drone’s wreckage will be seized and submitted for further expert analysis. A check will also be conducted for traces of explosive substances and mixtures.
A counter-bomb terrorism team from the “Special Operations and Counterterrorism” Directorate within the General Directorate of “Gendarmerie, Special Operations, and Counterterrorism” is working at the scene, the Ministry of the Interior reported. Investigative proceedings are ongoing.
