President Rumen Radev met with the EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, on June 9. They discussed the challenges facing the regions and the effective use of EU funds to build a green economy.
According to Rumen Radev, the European cohesion policy should create new opportunities to overcome regional imbalances both in the EU and in the member states themselves.
The President also stressed the need for a new energy strategy for Bulgaria, which would define the approaches for the transformation of coal-fired power plants.
EU Commissioner, Elisa Ferreira, also visited Vidin, where she checked how EU funds are spent. She visited the pedestrian zone and a school in the town, renovated with money from EU programmes. In the new programming period, 600 million BGN are allocated for the North-Western Bulgaria.
