GERB-UDF leader, Boyko Borissov, again linked the adoption of this year's budget with the formation of a regular government. He convened a meeting with the new MPs from the party on April 11 and said that if there would be y go to quick elections in June, opening the budget is dangerous.
GERB leader Borissov: The most stable government would be a coalition between the major parties
All parties preferred to gather at their headquarters. GERB-UDF leader urged the MPs to extend a hand to the “We Continue the Change” – “Democratic Bulgaria” and form a coalition cabinet together because the country was in a dire situation and could be left without a budget.
"We should show reason, we should show agreement, we should show tolerance. No matter how much our friends attack us, the only stable, long-term government is between the two major parties. Or the two big coalitions. Because essentially we have the same views in 99% of our programmes. I expect more reason and wisdom from the political parties in the days ahead. Otherwise, we will go into elections and remain without a budget. Without us, there can be no government. We are ready for dialogue. We put Bulgaria above everything. All we want is to be treated with respect," he said.
Boyko Borissov also announced that GERB-UDF will nominate Rosen Zhelyazkov and Rositsa Kirova for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, while the chair of the parliamentary group will again be Desislava Atanasova, although Borissov himself will also be an MP.
For the time being, the second largest political group, “We Continue the Change” – “Democratic Bulgaria” (WCC-DB), remains silent, it is only clear that the leadership of the WCC and DB are holding a meeting at the headquarters of Democratic Bulgaria in Sofia.
"We Continue the Change" will not support a cabinet with participation of GERB
"Vazrazhdane", which were third in the April 2 elections, told journalists that they will nominate Petar Petrov for Speaker of Parliament and will only support his candidacy.
Meanwhile, it has become clear that Lena Borislavova (former government spokesperson and former chief of cabinet of PM Kiril Petkov), from WCC, today filed an application to resign from her parliamentary seat. However, the Central Elections Commission refused to consider her application because the decision with the new composition of the Parliament has already been promulgated in the State Gazette. Thus, Lena Borislavova has to take the oath of office tomorrow and then submit her resignation request to the leadership of the National Assembly.
Earlier today on Facebook Borislavova wrote that the days after the elections have shown that there are still difficult months and tasks ahead, both at national and local level. And noted that in the election campaign she had become convinced that many of the people's problems should be solved at local level.
"Yesterday, the Executive Council of "We Continue the Change" decided that along with the work in the National Assembly, the other important task before us is the local elections - precisely because of the key role of local government in improving the lives of people in every corner of the country. I was nominated to take on a coordinating role in this process and specifically to work on the campaign and the issues of my birthplace, Sofia. The responsibility for this task is enormous - it is crucial to the direction in which our capital will develop after years of abuses and missed opportunities," she wrote.
If Lena Borislavova leaves the Parliament, her place should be taken by Petar Petrov from “We Continue the Change”. Assen Baltov from GERB-UDF and TISP leader Slavi Trifonov also gave up their seats in the new Parliament.
The first sitting of the newly-elected Parliament will be held on April 12
