Nearly 5 kg of methamphetamine were found by customs officers at "Kaptain Andreevo" border check point during an inspection of a lorry.
On 12 October, a tractor-trailer with Turkish registration, travelling from Turkey to Germany, arrived at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented to the customs officers regular documents for the transported groupage goods.
Under the 'risk analysis' method, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs check, during which customs officers found nine transparent bags containing a white crystalline substance in two pots, a grill pan and a black polythene bag in the semi-trailer's glove compartment, which is often used by drivers to store food and utensils.
In a field test, the substance reacted to methamphetamine.
The total gross weight of the drug found was 4.9 kg with a value of BGN 122,500.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case by a customs investigator under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
On 13 October, the Turkish citizen was detained for up to 72 hours by order of the supervising prosecutor.
